As I understood it, any items sent to me unsolicited (return address labels, calendars, note cards) were mine to keep for free. Charities send these out to get you to feel guilty and donate money for the "gift" that was enclosed – officially at no obligation to the recipient.

Months ago, I was sent a DVD called the Nascar Ultimate DVD collection (disc 1). I was under the impression that I would be billed should I choose to keep it – and I’ve been getting bills! – but, since I never asked for it in the first place, do I really need to return it OR pay for it?

I’m not sure it’s the same company, but I’ve seen NASCAR offer up a "free" program that allows you to follow the races on the internet. When people forget to cancel the trial, they are charged for the next year, no cancellations possible. Is this just another slimy attempt to trick people into paying money when they didn’t intend to buy a product? Do they think that NASCAR fans are just too ignorant to fight back?
